Double Win for ‘The Weed Eaters’ at Knoxville Horror Fest

DEGANZ members Callum Devlin and Annabel Kean received not one, but two awards for their film The Weed Eaters at the Knoxville Horror Festival!

Directed and edited by Callum and produced by and starring Annabel, the film follows four friends on a New Year’s getaway. Their trip (ahem) takes a dark turn when they discover their host’s stash of killer weed, leaving them with an insatiable craving for human flesh.

The film bagged the Best Feature (Palm d’Gore)  and the Funniest Movie awards at Knoxville.

Although made on a modest $19,000 budget, this hasn’t stopped the film from becoming widely successful and reaching diverse audiences. The Weed Eaters premiered at the 2025 Whānau Marama NZ International Film Festival and amassed an impressive number of festival laurels, including the Frightfest in London, the Adelaide Film Festival, and taking home the Best Feature Film at South by Southwest Sydney.

Congratulations to Callum and Annabel on this fantastic achievement!
