DEGANZ members hit it out of the park at the 2026 DEGANZ members hit it out of the park at the 2026 Melbourne International Film Festival! 🎬🔥  Last week, seven directors from Aotearoa attended the MIFF Accelerator Lab, taking part in exclusive workshops, screenings, seminars and networking events (and picking up a few awards along the way)!  🏆 Grand Prix Award for Best Short Film

Victoria Boult  Congratulations to Prisca, Nick, Victoria and all seven filmmakers who represented Aotearoa at MIFF! 👏  DEGANZ is proud to be in our third year of supporting filmmakers from Aotearoa at MIFF, with the financial support of the New Zealand Film Commission.
What does it take to be an authentic storyteller? What does it take to be an authentic storyteller? 🎥💫  At our NZIFF Masterclass, Pietra Brettkelly shared the values that have shaped her career: humility, trust and collaboration. Reflecting on her experience as a pākehā filmmaker documenting stories in colonised countries, Pietra spoke about her responsibility to avoid a coloniser perspective and the intentional process in ensuring those at the heart of CROCODILE felt empowered. It is with profound sadness that DEGANZ acknowledg It is with profound sadness that DEGANZ acknowledges the passing of Wairoa Māori Film Festival’s Leo Koziol.  Leo has been an institution in indigenous cinema for decades, working tirelessly to give exposure to indigenous film and indigenous filmmakers, not just for Māori and those in Aotearoa New Zealand, but globally.  Leo had a presence and personality that always made you smile, and he will be sorely missed. Our thoughts go to his family, friends and colleagues at this time.  Me tangi, kāpā ko te mate i te marama.
