‘Mirumiru’ Wins Best Indigenous Short at the 2026 SFiFF
Congratulations to DEGANZ member Allan George (Ngāti Kahungunu), who won the Best Indigenous Short Film Jury Award at the 2026 Santa Fe International Film Festival (SFiFF) for his film, Mirumiru (Bubble).
The animated short follows an elderly Māori man as he desperately tries to hold onto the memories of his ailing wife. Allan uses bubbles as a metaphor for memories, capturing the harrowing effects of dementia.
SFiFF is New Mexico’s largest film event and a premier Academy Award-qualifying platform for independent and international cinema. It receives more than 7,000 submissions and draws more than 15,000 visitors annually. The festival prides itself on highlighting artistic excellence and serving as Santa Fe’s year-round film hub.
It’s always great to see a DEGANZ member being recognised and awarded at such a prestigious international event!
