On February 21, following its premiere at NZIFF last year, DEGANZ is looking forward to hosting a Film Talk of Fiona Clark: Unafraid in association with Rialto Cinemas. The documentary brings attention to notable photographer Fiona Clark and her work, which captured the burgeoning gay liberation movement and vibrant queer scene in 1970’s New Zealand.

Following the screening, audiences will be joined by the director, DEGANZ member Lula Cucchiara, and Fiona Clark herself for a Q&A session moderated by Eloise Veber.

Congratulations to editors Annie Collins and Cushla Dillon who will have their work screened as part of the 69th edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival (Aug 5-22).

Annie edited feature film thriller Coming Home in the Dark, which will screen in cinemas and online. Cushla Dillon was the editor on drama The Justice of Bunny King, which will screen in cinemas on August 7 and August 9 as part of MIFF.

For us in Aotearoa, save the date for August 12. DEGNZ will be hosting a Film Talk for Coming Home in the Dark at Rialto Cinemas Newmarket in Auckland. Director James Ashcroft will be in attendance for a special Q&A. Get your tickets here.

We’re thrilled to be hosting a screening of Coming Home in the Dark, in association with Rialto Cinemas, on August 12. Premiering at Sundance Film Festival earlier in the year, the film follows Alan ‘Hoaggie’ Hoaganraad (Erik Thompson), a high school teacher who is forced to confront a secret from his past when a pair of ruthless drifters, Mandrake (Daniel Gillies) and Tubs (Matthias Luafutu), take his family on a nightmare road-trip.

Director James Ashcroft joins us after the screening for a Q&A session, moderated by Hweiling Ow.

Essie Davis and Thomasin McKenzie in The Justice of Bunny King

On July 29, following its world premiere at Tribeca Film Festival, DEGNZ is excited to be hosting a screening of The Justice of Bunny King, in association with Rialto Cinemas. The film follows Bunny King (Essie Davis), a mother of two who’s a rough cut diamond with a sketchy past. While battling the system to reunite with her children, a confrontation leads her to take her niece Tonyah (Thomasin McKenzie) under her wing. With the world against her and Tonyah, Bunny’s battle has just begun.

Following the screening, audiences will be joined by director Gaysorn Thavat for a Q&A session, moderated by Lucy Wigmore.

Rūrangi

We’re excited for new homegrown drama Rūrangi to release at Rialto Cinemas.

Burnt-out trans activist Caz Davis returns to Rurangi, the rural dairy community he fled ten years ago, hoping to reconnect with his father, who hasn’t heard from him since before Caz transitioned. As father and son slowly reconcile, Caz finds himself swept up in the environmental fight which is dividing the town.

Join us for the Film Talk event where writer/producer Cole Meyers and producer Craig Gainsborough will do a Q&A after the screening of the film.
