Online Young Creators: Think Outside the Box

We had an awesome time speaking to Jonathan, Milon and Gabe from commercial video production company Chillbox Creative in the latest in our Young Creators series. It was lovely to see that while we couldn’t meet up in person, familiar faces from our membership and others in the filmmaking community tuned in during the live-stream.

The video is available to watch if you couldn’t catch it live.

Online Young Creators: Think Outside the Box

LIVE-STREAM 4PM on Facebook

7.5 years after leaving uni, the six-part team at Chillbox (a commercial video production company) has embarked on pre-production for ‘Loop Track’, their first self-funded feature film. COVID-19 has meant a postponement to production (which was scheduled for May), and has required a large amount of adaptation.

On April 2, they’ll share a bit about how they’re adapting to the realities of COVID-19, and thoughts on how we can make the most of the lockdown, as creative people. In addition, they’ll share a bit about the Chillbox story – and the journey from creating commercial content to feature filmmaking.

If you’re thinking of starting up your own production company or hungry for insight into how best to balance making commercial content with your creative projects, Milon Tesiram, Jonathan Potton and Gabriel Lunte from Chillbox Creative will be connecting from their homes to answer all your burning questions!

Flat3 Productions was founded by 4 Kiwi women of Chinese heritage. Since their humble beginnings, they have accumulated a wealth of experience in writing, directing, and producing scripted comedy/drama for online consumption. Flat3’s award-winning content has garnered four NZTV award nominations. After 8 years together, the team has decided to make the jump into premium TV format. This next phase has already begun with the company securing NZ On Air production funding for a TVNZ television comedy (Creamerie). Individually, Ally and JJ have expanded their interest into other areas of filmmaking – primarily producing and writing. The pair recently wrapped principal photography on their TVNZ OnDemand teen comedy webseries (MEME).

Alibi

We’re having a Young Creators hang-out on the last Wednesday of the month! We are stoked to have David de Lautour (Westside‘s Ted West) in to share on his experiences as co-creator and director of Plus6Four Entertainment’s binge-worthy web series Alibi.

David is also a director on Westside this season. Find out David’s advice to other filmmakers looking to create high-quality, local web series that further their careers.

Alibi is a six-part TVNZ OnDemand series where each episode shows the questioning of a suspect in the murder of a 17-year-old girl. Viewers get the fun of figuring out who’s responsible by choosing which order they watch the interviews.

There will be time for audience questions and the bar will be open. We’ll be out on the Sun Deck catching the last of summer. See you there!

WHEN: Wed 27 March 2019, 6:30pm. Talk starts 6:45pm
WHERE: Longroom – Sun Deck, 114 Ponsonby Road, Auckland
